Am I alone in my fears that Google is going to become the Ma Bell of the internet, eventually needing federal regulation to break it into smaller pieces in some kind of antitrust measure? Of course, those pieces will probably be less efficient, overpriced, and incredibly annoying, but I guess it's just one of the many wonders that the future holds in store for us.
In the meantime, I've been branching out, checking out new search engines now so I won't be sitting on my hands wondering what to do if Google ends up in the tank later. That's how I found the Find.com Search Engine.
I actually found it just in time, since I'm trying to update this blog's template from its current stock design to something flashier. I'm having a hell of a time fighting with blogger to get things done, and some search engines have done a crappy job helping me find out how to align widgets on my custom blogger template.
I'm also intrigued by the plucky, "can do" attitude that find.com is showing. In addition to the search feature--which promises to help you find people, find jobs and even find friends--they have a catalog of informative, in-house articles written by experts that is only going to get larger over time. That's not even mentioning how you can find without searching by putting your query in the web address, like how I can look for HTML tricks by typing http://find.com/HTML tricks, saving me the extra step of entering the term into their search engine.
They've promised that they'll be evolving, so I'm going to be checking back frequently to see what develops, even when I'm not searching for anything specific.
