I love wearing custom suits. It used to be something I felt guilty about, like I was spending money on some kind of unnecessary luxury. Then I sat down and thought about why I like wearing suits, and I realized that they're worth it. In a nice suit, I know I look good, and it gives me confidence. And confidence gets me results. When it comes to personal and professional accomplisments, believing in yourself is half the work, and it's easier to believe that I'm capable of great things when I'm dressed in a great suit. A good suit is an investment in myself.
The problem is actually buying them. I'm a tall guy, so I have trouble finding suits I can wear just off the rack. I'm tired of looking like a scarecrow with shins and forearms sticking out all over the place, and I'm sick of wearing a tent just because it keeps my arms covered. You actually wear a made to measure suit, you don't grab it out of your closet and hope it doesn't make you look like a grade-schooler on class picture day at your next job interview (and oh, lord, am I happy to have something sharp to wear to my next job interview. With all the competition for the good jobs out there in this economy, I need every edge I can get!).
I just never know where to find a good mens’ suit. The big department stores don't have the kind of personalized service I need, and all the tailors I get referred to end up being wizened old men in musty, cavernous stores that make me feel like I've stepped back in time into my grandfather's closet. And I'm interrupting him.
I like the look of My Suit's made to measure business. It's where I want to pick up my next custom suit.

Most of it's done online. First, you schedule an appointment to get measured, so you know they'll be ready for you and you won't stand around waiting for service. Then you go into the store, and the measurements take about 15 minutes. They're just the right balance of speed and thoroughness. Most tailors only bother with 3 basic measurements, but if they have to, the people at My Suit will take up to 30 measurements to make sure that your clothes fit right. And it's free, so even if you don't like their store, you've at least got the measurements for your next suit, right?
The best part is that everything from there is at your own computer, on your own terms. They know they'll be able to craft something that fits like a glove, no matter what style, options, or fabric you select, and so you can really play around at their custom suit site.
It's not limiting you to a small number of stock suits they can throw together at a moment's notice. They've got six types of jackets, and let you customize them along with your pants in almost 50 different fabrics, from dark and heavy options to something that works better in warmer weather, keeping you covered in both social and business functions.
I'm choosing their 4-button jacket. I've never been a fan of the double-breasted look, but it's there if you want it, along with 1, 2, and 3-button options. Go ahead and pick the flat front pants for yourself; I'm happier in something pleated. Once you've picked everything out, you'll have your suit two weeks later.
It's quick, convenient, and worth the money. Sure, you can drop $2K with them if you feel like a big spender, but you can also find yourself something you can feel confident in for only $495. (I wondered how they can stay in business at those rates, and it turns out they're by relying on the internet and electronic recordkeeping. They can produce their inventory on demand and offer it direct to customers with retail outlet service at wholesale outlet prices. It turns out they've got over 40 years of experience, so I guess they've learned how to keep things efficient!)
